Toddler’s loss of life from malnourishment lands 2 girls in custody in Web page

Two women were arrested after an infant died at a hospital in Page on Friday morning.

An unnamed 9-day-old infant was brought to the emergency room at Page Hospital shortly after 10 am and died shortly after.

According to the Page Police Department, the baby died of malnourishment after being brought to the hospital.

“There was evidence suggesting the child had been severely neglected,” according to a statement the department posted on social media.

Police said 40-year-old Nancy Bell claimed to have brought the baby to the hospital after finding it in a bathroom near Lone Rock, Utah.

According to police, Bell claimed she had a baby of her own before being given the baby of 33-year-old Jessica Seiser in order to breast feed both.

Seiser is believed to have been using drugs while pregnant with her baby, leading to complications with breast feeding, according to police.

The two women were arrested and booked into a Coconino County holding facility, and they could face charges of one count of child abuse.
