Two dealing with costs after youngster custody trade in Lancaster County ends in capturing, leaving one within the hospital

Reading’s Thalia Ortiz and Rashuan Taylor are charged with their roles in the incident.

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA. – Two people are charged after an arranged custody exchange resulted in gunshots and an innocent bystander injured and rushed to hospital.

Reading’s Thalia Ortiz and Rashaun Taylor are charged with their roles in the incident.

Ortiz faces a severe assault and shooting at an occupied structure while Taylor faces offenses that aid Ortiz in the commission of the crimes committed, police said.

At around 8:20 p.m. on May 30, police were sent to the 2000 block of Lawnwood Court in East Petersburg to report a shooting.

Upon arrival, police found a woman had a gunshot wound to the hip and were taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment. The wound was not life threatening, authorities said.

Police were told that the shooting suspects had fled in a green Subaru heritage, and with assistance from the Manheim Township Police Department, the vehicle with Ortiz and Taylor was a short distance away.

Authorities said their investigation revealed that Ortiz and Taylor arrived home as part of an arranged custody exchange when a dispute broke out that became physical between Ortiz and the friend of the child’s father.

Police say Ortiz and Taylor got into a vehicle to leave the area following the argument when Ortiz allegedly fired numerous shots from a 9mm pistol in the direction of the house.

Officials say one of these shots went through a window and hit the victim, who at the time of the incident was an innocent bystander visiting the residence.

The police were able to recover the weapon allegedly involved in the incident, which is still being investigated.

Anyone with information that may be of assistance to the police is encouraged to contact Northern Lancaster County Regional Police at 717-733-0965.
