Two youngsters hit by automotive in Rockford in important situation, driver now in custody

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A four-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were caught in an apparent hit-and-run accident late Thursday evening on the west side of Rockford.

Just before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Rockford Police were at the site of a car accident at the intersection of Central Avenue and School Street in Rockford. After asking the public to avoid the area, police reported that two children, a 5-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, were apparently hit by a car. Rockford Police have since made it clear that a 4-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were beaten. The circumstances of the incident are currently unknown.

UPDATE: A 5 year old boy and a 9 year old girl were hit by a driver. The driver, a 30-year-old man, fled the scene but was located a short time later and is on remand. Both children are currently in critical condition.

According to police, the driver, a 30-year-old man, escaped from the scene but was found shortly afterwards and is now in custody. Both children are listed in critical condition.
