Police records show that Taylor was extradited from Texas to be charged with murder in a murder he allegedly committed in East Chicago.

A source close to the investigation said it was the November 19 murder of Daniel Nitzsche, 52, of Chicago, who told police he was robbed and shot in an alley on the 700 block of West 150th Street before he died at St. Catherine Hospital in Chicago, East Chicago.

Martinez said all extraditions more than 250 miles from the Lake County Jail are arranged by the courts, not the sheriff’s department. The sheriff said he only got an estimated time of arrival at the prison from the private, contracted transportation service.

According to court records, Taylor faced five armed robberies separately for a series of robberies in 2018 in South Hammond, Hessville, Munster and Gary.

In one case, Taylor allegedly stuck a gun in the face of a Gary man while the man was lifting his 2-year-old from the back seat of a car. Then he stole the man’s wallet, cell phone and car, the police said.

Police were tracking Taylor on cellphone and Taylor’s ankle monitor from a previous break-in. He eventually led the police on a high speed hunt and was eventually found hiding near Ogden Dunes.
