UPDATED: Charlottesville youngster protected, and abduction suspect is in custody; Amber Alert canceled | Crime-and-courts
TO UPDATE: Virginia State Police said Tuesday that the child had been safely located and the kidnap suspect was in custody. The Amber Alert was canceled.
ORIGINAL: Virginia State Police said late Monday that an Amber Alert had been issued to a Charlottesville child believed to be in extreme danger.
Police said Bricen Kent Mwanawabene, 5, was abducted at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and was last found on Cherry Ave. Seen in Charlottesville in 1528.
State police said the boy was kidnapped by Guy Johnson Gage. The suspect has been described as a black woman who is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
Gage was last seen driving a red Honda CRV with a Virginia license plate, UMM-2229, in 1997.
Police said the boy is black, 3 feet tall and weighs 45 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray long sleeved shirt and blue jeans, along with a blue puff coat, blue stocking cap, and black and green shoes that light up.
