A judge issued an arrest warrant for a Crystal Lake man who allegedly broke a joint home purchase agreement with a family member and stole nearly $150,000 from them.

Armando Guerrero, 46, of the 1-100 block of North Williams Street in Crystal Lake, was charged with theft exceeding $100,000 and not exceeding $500,000, a Class 1 felony.

A criminal complaint said that Guerrero agreed with a family member to put the money from selling the family member’s condominium in Florida, around $147,000, into Guerrero’s bank account.

They agreed the money from the sale would be used to purchase a house for the two in Illinois.

Once the money was transferred to Guerrero’s bank account, he used it to buy various items and pay outstanding child support payments, the complaint said.

All the money from the sale was eventually used with “virtually no benefit” to his family member.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Guerrero on Monday.

If arrested, Guerrero’s bond would be set at $75,000, court records show.
