Keep your banking status up to date

If your bank status changes, it may delay receipt of your stimulus payment. According to an analysis by the Urban Institute think tank, black Americans and other people of color are more likely to be “bankless” than white Americans. People who identify as white and whose income is above the poverty line are more likely to have their first stimulus check in late May than people who identify as black, Hispanic, or below the poverty line first wave of payments went to people who had their bank account information on file with the IRS.

Several major banks, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, are now offering cheaper checking accounts as part of a government effort to help people enter the banking system.

A second check will likely arrive in the same way as a first check. If you are someone without a bank account and your first payment was received by check or mail EIP card, a second will likely come the same way.

Now consider setting up a direct deposit

If you have a bank, you can use the IRS Receive my payment Online service too Set up a direct deposit for your stimulus paymentas well as find out and see the status of your check if anything is holding up payment. The first direct deposit sign-up for your first check has expired in May, but will likely reopen when a second check is written.
