Fannin County DA says 2020 dying in custody concerned no criminality

The Fannin County Grand Jurors found no reason this week to bring charges against the death of a man in custody in Fannin County Jail on February 21, 2021.

In a report on the grand jury’s work for the month, Fannin County District Attorney Glaser said the jury heard evidence from Texas Ranger Bruce Sherman about the death of an inmate while in custody. This inmate was a 40-year-old man who was alone in a cell when he was found on the floor.

“Obviously he sagged and lost his balance and hit his head on the floor, I guess, and was taken to the hospital and died of head trauma. But an accident was ruled out because no one was in the cell with him.” said Glaser.

A search of Fannin County court records revealed that the man with arrest warrants had been arrested for continued child sexual abuse and indecency in child exposure. He was arrested outside the country on September 18, 2020.

Court records showed no lawyer for the man.
