A man is in custody after allegedly drawing a gun and lifting it off with a mother and child in Peekskill on Sunday.

Police say it all started just before 4 p.m. on Howard Street when police answered a call inside a house.

It is said that the man – possibly armed with a pistol – left a house with the woman and a child.

Police later saw him walking on Howard Street and chased him on foot to Main Street, where he was taken into custody.

The woman and child were found safe.

Peekskills Mayor Andre Rainey issued a statement praising the police, saying in part: “During the investigation, I trust that justice will be served. My prayers to the children and family are affected.”
