Suspect in custody after barricading himself from police in a house with two kids in Falcon neighborhood

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A man is in custody after barricading himself from police in a house with two children in a Falcon neighborhood.

This happened on Monday evening around 7 p.m. in the 7600 block of Mortensen Road. The residents were instructed to seek protection on site at this time.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that a MP would follow up a case of child abuse. Through his investigation, the MP received an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Patrol MPs attempted to contact the suspect Monday night to arrest him and assist the El Paso County Human Services Department (EPCDHS) in securing the children. EPCSO said one of the children came to the front window and said the father would not speak to them and closed the window. The suspect refused to comply with the MPs and barricaded himself in the apartment.

The two children in the apartment later escaped and were taken to housing by EPCDHS. The children said their father was armed with multiple weapons.

After several hours of negotiations, EPCSO was able to take the suspect into custody without incident.

Charles Dowling, 37, was detained in El Paso County Prison on charges of criminal threat, child abuse and third degree assault.
