Since we first reported on the upcoming update from the Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines 2020-2021 task force, a few additional updates have been released:

On December 15, 2020, the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation posted comments from members regarding possible updates to the Child Support Policy.

While the comment deadline for submitting written comments is December 15, 2020, public forums are coming up and we are giving you the full notice below:

GUIDELINES FOR CHILD SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITY LOOKS FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS

Overview:

According to federal laws and regulations, every state must review its child support policies at least every four years. In order to comply with federal review, the Honorable Paula M. Carey, Chief Justice in Massachusetts, established a task force to review the September 15, 2017 Child Support Guidelines, as amended on Sept. June 2018 should review.

Chief Justice Carey named the Honorable John D. Casey, Chief Justice of the Probate and Family Court, and the Honorable Katherine Field, Chief Justice of the Bristol County Probate and Family Court, to co-chairs the Task Force. The task force consists of representatives from the Probate and Family Courts, the Ministry of Finance, the Bar Association for Domestic Relations and legal advisory organizations. Public forums and written comments:

The public is invited to comment on the child support guidelines for the task force to review. Public forums will take place on January 21, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (EST). January 22, 2021, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (EST); and January 26, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (EST).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the forums will be held by Zoom. The forums are open to the public. The forums provide an opportunity to make a brief statement from the Task Force members. Oral testimony is limited to 3 minutes per person and should not refer to details of a speaker’s legal process. The task force also encourages employees to email testimonials or comments in writing to [email protected] by January 26, 2020. Please do not send written testimonials or comments individually to members of the task force.

The public forums are recorded by the host. Everything that is said is recorded and part of the recording. No other recording is allowed.
